The European Charter Section II text was finalised and approved by the council

06.06.2007

The revised text for the second part of the Charter has been finalised and now approved by the EUROPARC Federation Council. We hope to make it available in French and other languages in due course.

You can download the text here:

European Charter Section II - text

As you know the text offers a framework for integrating businesses into the Charter process. The exchange of expertise and experience concerning its implementation is crucial to the Charter’s further development and we therefore encourage the Charter networks – at European, section, national and regional levels – to make this a focus of their work in the period ahead. A guidance note is being prepared.

Thanks again to everybody who contributed their wisdom in the process of revising the text.

New verifiers join Charter evaluation team

20.03.2007

With more than 20 parks registered for evaluations under the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism in Protected Areas, and the established Charter Parks now undergoing re-evaluations to renew their Charter status after five years, there was a clear need to expand the team of expert verifiers to meet demand.

With the financial support of the travel operator TUI, EUROPARC held a training workshop at the Naturgut Ophoven, near Cologne, Germany, at the beginning of March. Seven new verifiers were trained to undertake the task of evaluating a candidate park’s application. The trainers included member of the Evaluation Committee Richard Denman, verifier Bettina Kreisel, and Josep Maria Prats, who is both a verifier and member of the Evaluation Committee.

The new verifiers are: Lucy Barron (England, UK), Fernando Correia (Portugal), Jacques Decuignières (France), Dagmar Diwok (Italy), Barry Ferguson (Northern Ireland, UK), Amanda Guzmán (Spain) and Wolfgang Mattes (Austria). A number of them will be deployed in the spring to evaluate the 11 candidate parks that have submitted their application for Charter status this year.
