Cooperation with the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas, European Region

At the 5th World Parks Congress in September 2003 in Durban, South Africa a Memorandum of Understanding (pdf file) was signed between the EUROPARC Federation and the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas, European Region.

IUCN / WCPA Europe and EUROPARC have committed themselves to working in partnership in order to achieve and promote the value and benefits of an effectively managed system of protected areas throughout Europe recognising that the conservation of Europe's natural and cultural heritage is dependent on protected areas and that society and nature are inextricably linked in  protected areas.
