Wetlands Group
landscape The EUROPARC Wetlands Group was set up during the EUROPARC 98 conference held in Majorca, Spain in October 1998. The main aims of the Wetlands Group are:

To exchange information and expertise on European wetlands, including restoration of damaged wetlands, preservation of more pristine wetlands and management of wetlands (tourism, agriculture and sustainable use)
To share best practice
To provide a database of information and contact names for wetland managers
To provide and organise seminars and events on relevant topics of interest that directly relate to wetlands.

The Group is chaired by Ing. Hans Schiphorst, Secretary of the National Park Board, Weerribben National Park (NL). It aims to meet twice a year, with one meeting held during the annual EUROPARC conference.

Membership of the Wetlands Group is open to anyone who is involved with practical aspects of the management of European wetlands. The membership is flexible to include colleagues from the EUROPARC Federation's member organisations - a core of 12 - 20 organisations is targeted, linking with WWF, Wetlands International, Ramsar Bureau etc. as appropriate.

During the Europarc conference in October 2002 in Wales, the members of the wetland group felt the need to exchange information more often. The result of this need is a newsletter. Hopefully, it is the first one of a series, but - as also explained in the newsletter itself - this depends on your contribution to items for next issues.
