Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park, Italy, will host the 10th Charter Network Meeting

“Charter for Sustainable Tourism: Working to support recovery and renewal”

EUROPARC Federation, Federparchi-EUROPARC Italia, and Gran Sasso National e Monti della Laga National Park invite ALL Parks, agencies, tourism businesses and tour operators involved or interested in sustainable tourism in protected areas. Come to Isola del Gran Sasso (IT), where we will meet at the Sanctuary of San Gabriele.

In the United Nations International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, the theme of the meeting will be “Charter for Sustainable Tourism: Working to support recovery and renewal”.

The Charter Network Meeting is open to all Parks, Businesses and Tour Operators working in the field of Sustainable Tourism.

Registration can be done below, by completing the online form. A small registration fee of 75€ is payable. This fee covers your shuttles, most meals, conference facilities, the excursion into Gran Sasso National Park and, of course, a full programme of exciting networking opportunities with colleagues from across Europe!

The Charter Network Meeting will start earlier for the Italian Charter Parks, as on Wednesday 25th takes place the Annual meeting of the Italian Network of Charter Parks.

Meanwhile, international participants will be arriving to Rome and at 16:00 and 17:00 there will be a transfer BUS departing from Fiumicino and Ciampino airports (respectively).

On Thursday starts the work: keynote speakers will reflect on the successes and challenges of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism and workshops will enable participants to learn new ways of working, from colleagues across the Charter network. We will celebrate with the local population of and around the Gran Sasso National Park, their work towards becoming a sustainable destination; especially important after the events that affected the area last year.

We will learn also of new exciting developments in the life of the Charter for Sustainable Tourism, especially regarding the rebranding!

Workshop 1 Between Communication and Promotion: Give Voice to Sustainable Destinations.

  • This workshop will focus on the Communications and Marketing strategy of the Charter.

Workshop 2 The revival of a territory: tourism between opportunities and challenges for sustainable development.

  • This workshop will focus on the Italian context, particularly addressing the revival of the Apennines and the role of the Parks and the ECST).

Workshop 5 Gathering evidence – Data, Indicators and Monitoring for Sustainable Tourism in Protected Areas

  • This workshop will focus on how to carry out effective, qualitative and quantitative monitoring of ECST efforts and impact on the territory: tourism flows, local economy, biodiversity. Comparable data at the European level.

Travel and Shuttles

There are many low-cost flights to Rome-Fiumicino and Rome-Ciampino. We will provide transfer from both airportss to the meeting venue at the following time:

  • 25th October, Wednesday
    Departure from Rome-Fiumicino airport – 16:00
  • Departure from Rome-Ciampino airport – 17:00
  • Estimated time of arrival at Isola Gran Sasso – 19:00

28th October, Saturday
In the morning of 28th, we will depart from Isola Gran Sasso after breakfast directly to the field trip. Participants should bring their luggage in the morning – as after lunch, the shuttle will go directly to the airports).

Note: If you have an early departure on Saturday 28th, you can arrive by BUS to Rome Tiburtina either at 10:10 or 12:40.
You will not be able to attend the field trip and the organisation will drive you by car to the bus station in Isola Gran Sasso. However, keep in mind that from Roma Tiburtina to Ciampino Airport there might be few options to arrive by public transport.

Accommodation

The Sanctuary of San Gabriel will have rooms to accommodate the Charter Network Participants. The Network meeting is taking place within the Sanctuary too, so it might be very comfortable to sleepover there. The price is 25€ per night with breakfast included. If you are interested in staying in the Sanctuary you must mentioned it on the registration form.
