What can you expect?
Taking place between the Netherlands and England, participants can expect an innovative networking event that looks to the future. It includes:
- A field trip in one of the most dynamic Protected Areas of the Netherlands: Zuid-Kennemerland National Park. Located between urban centres, a Grand Prix Circuit and the sea, this highly frequented area has reintroduced bison and remobilised dunes, all whilst navigating the different interests of many stakeholders. What was the thinking behind their approach? How can it help us shape a better future for nature and people?
- An innovative workshop on the Eurostar between Amsterdam and London. In a private carriage, participants can let their imagination run wild and have a closer look at the partnerships needed to create the landscapes of the future.
- An exciting conference in Sheffield, with workshops, keynote speeches and many opportunities to connect with peers from across Europe.
What themes will we explore?
We live and work in a dynamic and rapidly changing world: social, economic and environmental impacts can be observed all around us. Our Protected Areas are increasingly vulnerable to a range of pressures. This necessitates new thinking about management practices, the scale of our work and the alliances required to ensure more effective and integrated responses. To facilitate that thinking, EUROPARC Atlantic Isles will organise a series of webinars and site visits to explore the following themes:
- Flourishing Communities – How can we facilitate and support the conditions in protected landscapes where diverse communities can live and work?
- Working Landscapes – How do we engage with the main decision makers who manage most of the land in protected landscapes, like farmers? How do we work together to find the best outcomes for nature, climate, and the economy?
- Making the case – How do we make new designations relevant and valued by those within and beyond the designated area?
- Nature for all – How do we engender greater support for protected landscape from the wider population and highlight their significance?
This will accumulate into the final innovative face-to-face event taking place between Zandvoort and Sheffield. The event will focus on what we need to do and the actions protected landscapes will need to take.
Who should join this event?
This event is open to all nature mangers, landowners, and decision makers across Europe, who are interested in shaping the landscapes of the future. We want to bring together a wide range of opinions and visions, to truly unpick what is needed to ensure we are ‘fitter for the future’.
