On May 25th we celebrate the Day of the National Park. On Schiermonnikoog we do that by ‘illuminating’ the treasures of darkness. For several years, evening excursions have been organized by the visitor center, such as evening mud walks, stargazing, an evening walk and a ‘night adventure’ especially for the children! During the summer holidays, these activities are on the program every week.
In order to experience the darkness yourself, we have developed a night map of the island. The night map is available at the visitor center from 25th of May. We will also soon be presenting a mini-exhibition about darkness and during the evening walks this summer you can join our guide with a bat detector in search of bats.
