Excursion – The Secrets of the First Resort in the Curonian Spit: Past and Present
On the occasion of the European Day of Parks (EDoP), a special excursion: “The Secrets of the First Resort in the Curonian Spit: Past and Present.”
May 24th at 13:00.
You will explore the story of the Juodkrantė village and the founding and flourishing of the first resort in the Curonian Spit – “Schwarzort.” Walking past the legend-filled Griekai Hollow, we’ll visit the once most beloved 19th–20th century viewpoint for tourists, stroll through ancient forest promenades dating back 5,000 years, and follow hidden trails leading to the parabolic dune once inhabited by witches. Along witch-snare-woven paths, we’ll approach the Evangelical Lutheran Church, and from there, with stories of the unique lives of the Curonian people, we’ll head toward the Great Cormorant Colony.
During the excursion, we will walk approximately 9-10 kilometers and the tour will take around 3 hours. Please bring water and wear comfortable footwear.
