ECST Meetings

Every two years, the EUROPARC network of Sustainable Destinations applying the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism in Protected Areas methodology comes together to exchange experience and best practice. With visitor pressure increasing in many European Protected Areas, we need to look at tourism with a different mindset.

Save the NEW Date: Sustainable Tourism & Nature Conservation – the Opportunity and Challenge for Parks

  • 28 – 31 October 2024  (arriving on the 27th)
  • Westport, Ireland

Explore and discover the Wild West of Ireland! We invite you to save the date for the 13th network Meeting of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism, organised together with the National Parks and Wildlife Service of Ireland. This meeting will focus on finding creative solutions to visitor flow – an essential topic for Protected Areas creating sustainable tourism offers!

Participants can expect an exciting programme, with loads of opportunities for knowledge exchange & networking. Furthermore, there will be visits to Connemara National Park and Wild Nephin National Park.

We expect arrivals on the 27th of October and on the 1st November you will all return home fresh with ideas, motivation and ready to get to work. Travel is easy from Dublin and Knock airports.

Registration for this event will open in May. Are you already planning to attend? Then we highly recommend you already book your accommodation!

The change of date (from May to October) will now ensure that you will find accommodation at a reasonable price. Westport is so popular that prices in May had already rocketed and room availability was really scarce. Our co-organisers, the National Park and Wildlife Service, Ireland, have reached an agreement with the Westport Woods Hotel – venue of the conference, to put rooms on hold at a competitive rate.

An even better reason for the change is that you will be able to enjoy the Mayo dark sky festival, which starts 6pm 1st November in the Wild Nephin National Park. A real delight for your senses and a MUST-SEE event!

Below, you will find outcomes and useful documents from previous ECST meetings.
