Protected Area Management Effectiveness: how do we achieve a multidimensional approach?

Published on:

EUROPARC is excited to invite its members and the wider Protected Area community to this event in Italy, looking at the different dimensions of Protected Area Management Effectiveness.

Protected Area Management Effectiveness: how do we achieve a multidimensional approach?

  • 26-27 October (full day on the 26, half day on the 27, ending after lunch)
  • Monastery of Camaldoli, Località Camaldoli, 14, 52014 Camaldoli AR, Italy
  • Registration to the event is free of charge. Accommodation and travel needs to be covered by the participant (please see logistical information)

About the event

Protected Area Management Effectiveness (PAME) is about much more than assessing the effectiveness of management. It is about understanding what enables Protected Areas to achieve the best outcomes for biodiversity, while balancing ecological, social, governance and economic realities.

This interactive event brings together Protected Area managers, researchers, policymakers, European institutions and practitioners to explore the evolving landscape of Management Effectiveness in Europe. Building on the insights of expert speakers and the experiences of the LIFE PAME-Europe Pilot Sites, participants will exchange ideas and discover practical examples of how Management Effectiveness is being applied in different contexts. Together, participants can discuss how shared expertise and experiences can help shape future approaches for PAME across Europe.

Rather than focusing solely on assessment methodologies and the technical discipline of PAME, this event will examine the wider dimensions of Management Effectiveness. In addition to technical expertise, how do governance, stakeholder engagement, and socio-economic considerations impact effective management? What tools and advances in technology can be useful? And in turn, how can management effectiveness assessments help underline the importance of Protected Areas for society?

Designed as an open and participatory networking event, the programme will foster dialogue between participants with backgrounds in science, policy and practice. Through presentations, discussions and exchange sessions, the event aims to promote the need for transdisciplinary collaboration, share lessons learned and identify opportunities for future cooperation.

Whether you work in policy, research or on the ground, this event offers an opportunity to connect with peers, contribute your expertise and help shape the future of Protected Area Management Effectiveness in Europe.

The event will build upon the lessons learned from the EUROPARC 2024 e-Forum, the 2024 Siggen Seminar, the currently ongoing LIFE PAME-Europe project, as well as the SOCIAT Tool.

The event is made possible thanks to the generous support of EUROPARC member, the Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona e Campigna.
