Sustainable Tourism – Training for Tomorrow: A new tool to help learning about Sustainable Tourism in Protected Areas
During this webinar, we introduced an inspiring online learning platform for sustainable tourism, filled with key information on topics such as effective visitor communication, monitoring and conservation through tourism. It includes interesting European case studies, follow up resources and quizzes. It targets anyone with an interest in sustainable tourism in Protected Areas. You can find the platform on the Sustainable Tourism Training for Tomorrow website.
Additionally, we heard from Sara Zappini, the director of “Terme di Rabbi”, a thermal and wellness spa in the Stelvio National Park, who has already successfully used the platform: “To reach your goals, we need to work together“. The platform specifically helped her to have a look around the world and share best practice and find new ideas from around the world. We also heard from Amanda Guzmán from the “Association of Ecotourism in Spain” – they provided the view of tourist businesses when creating the platform.
We then heard some best practices through the presentation of two case studies: “The Gomera Experience, an inspiring tool to promote ecotourism for business in La Gomera (Spain)” by Manuel Fernando Martín – vice president of the Sustainable Tourism Association of La Gomera and “Conservation through tourism – Mobilization of volunteers for the creation and rehabilitation of mountain bike circuits“, by Olaf Holm – director of Parc naturel régional de la Montagne de Reims.

Announcement: Sustainable Tourism Training Event
We are currently producing a training toolkit to support the curriculum topics that have been developed. This will involve the production of guidelines, tools and approaches to use platform material on blended and/or face-to-face training sessions, to enable dissemination of the curriculum via physical and online training events into the future. For that we are offering around 20 places to be trained in the use of the toolkit and to provide multiplier information and capacity building in sustainable tourism across your networks.
