Objective: To raise awareness about the biodiversity and conservation value of Vjosa River National Park among local students and promote their active participation in its protection.

EcoAlbania and US Forest Service, in collaboration with a local school, are organizing an educational activity to celebrate the European Day of Parks and discover the Vjosa River’s Flag Species. The Vjosa River, together with its tributaries Drino, Shushica and Bënça, was recently declared a National Park, category II according to the IUCN, with a surface area of 12,727 ha.
During the activity, participants will receive a list of flag/keystone species that are characteristic of Vjosa River’s ecosystems. Each student will be assigned one species to learn about its ecology, morphology, and lifecycle. Prior to the exercise, materials will be distributed to the participants including an image of the species and the ecology.
On the day of the activity, participants will dress up as their assigned species and present their findings to the group. This activity will allow students to learn about the unique species and identity of the Vjosa River and promote the importance of protecting its biodiversity.

Expected outcomes:
• Increased awareness about the biodiversity and conservation value of Vjosa River National Park among local students.
• Improved knowledge about the ecology and morphology of Vjosa River’s Flag Species.
• Increased interest in participating in the protection and conservation of Vjosa River National Park.
• Strengthened the relationship between EcoAlbania and the local school community.
